We Choose Welcome: Bridge Builders Training
UPC’s Refugees Support Efforts
Our congregation continues to discern the call to support refugees in our community. A task force has organized the following ways to be a part of UPC’s continuing We Choose Welcome initiative:
Bridge Builders Training
Bridge Builders Training: On September 30, Refugee Community Partnership (RCP) will conduct a Bridge Builders training session in Vance Barron Hall. The training will start at 10:00 a.m. and will end around 2:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided.
Through Bridge Builders, two-to-four families/individuals from UPC will be partnered with a local refugee family, with the expectation of developing a long-term relationship. As we learned in our Sunday School class, relocation services for new refugee families end after about three months, yet the needs remain and are often great. RCP’s Bridge Builders program helps to address this gap through a relationship-based model of serving the needs of these families in our community.
To register for the training, click the button below and enter password “rcpbb.” The Bridge Builder Application is through the Refugee Community Partnership. Please let Reid Chisholm know via email or phone (919-260-0992) if you are completing the application or have any questions.
Refugee Support Team: You may sign up for UPC’s Refugee Support Team—a list of volunteers to perform discreet jobs on an as-needed basis (e.g., providing transportation to a doctor’s appointment). The team will support the activities of Refugee Community Partnership (RCP), a local refugee support organization (refugeecommunitypartnership.org). Click here to sign up online.
