Employment Opportunity – UPC Administrative Assistant

We are looking for a new administrative assistant to join our staff team! Please check out our job posting here and share with anyone in your circles who might be interested.

Facing Racism: A Summer Series (June 20, 11 am)

This summer, the Racial Equity Team and Adult Education Committee are partnering together to offer a three-part virtual series about racism and the Church. Session 1 (A Christian Perspective on Racial Justice) will take place on June 20 at 11 am. Led by Hank Water & Jarrett McLaughlin, with Q&A facilitated by Erin Kent, we will explore what scripture and our theological traditions have to say about racial justice, and why these conversations should matter to the Church. This class will take place via Zoom; click the link in our weekly email to register and receive the link. For any questions, please contact Erin Kent (eekent@gmail.com).

Sessions 2 and 3 will take place later this summer (exact dates TBA).

Give Light Campaign

Since March 2020, John Wilson has generously worked with our church staff to produce online worship, which offered our congregation light during a difficult time. To honor John’s gift to our church family, we want to give light by installing solar-powered lights on the grounds of UPC. Our goal is $30,000. Will you join us in giving thanks for John’s work by giving light? Click here to give online. To learn more about this campaign, visit upcch.org/give-light.

New UPC Name Tags – Sign Up Today!

Help us know who is behind the mask when we regather! We’re ordering a brand new batch of magnetic name tags to have when we return to in-person worship. These name tags are FREE and available for all active members and attenders, thanks to the UPC Endowment Fund. (Even if you still have an old one, please sign up for a new one so we can all match!) Click here to fill out the simple request form – please sign up separately for each individual in your family who wants one. Sign up by July 10 to have your name tag ready by August 1!

Congregational Retreat 2021 – Registration is Now Open!

After a brief hiatus, the Congregational Retreat is back (in a slightly modified format)! Join us for a day retreat on September 12 at Camp New Hope in Chapel Hill. This year’s theme is Guided by the Spirit. For details and to register, visit upcch.org/retreat.

Volunteer Opportunity – Ushers Needed

As we prepare for re-gathering in person, one way you can help is by volunteering to be an usher! Ushers greet worship participants, help monitor COVID protocols, and provide leadership during emergency situations. Training sessions will take place this summer to help both new and returning ushers learn all aspects of the job. Would you be interested in serving in this way on a rotating basis? Click here to sign up today!

Stephen Ministry – Joy & Apprehension?

Who partners with a Stephen Minister? A woman like Sarah who faced a major change in life at an advanced age and needed someone to listen to both her joy and apprehension. Joyful events can also create stress. Do you need someone to listen to you? Contact Meg for a confidential, listening partner: a Stephen Minister.

    Cards for Grads (May 20)

Join in the JOY for our graduating high school seniors. You’re invited to send cards to them all ON THE SAME DAY. They’ll be on the receiving end of a mailbox full of love from their UPC family. Email Kim McNeill, Staff Associate for Youth Ministries (kim@upcch.org) for the address list, then drop all of your cards in the mail ON MAY 20th. It’s a fun way to help these youth remember that they go out into what’s next with the prayers and support of their church family.

    UPC Pentecost Picnic (May 23)

Don’t forget to sign up for the Pentecost Picnic on May 23! We’re making plans for a fun, socially distanced gathering at Camp New Hope as an opportunity for us to spend time together and meet our new members and staff. Bring a picnic lunch, chairs/blankets, yard games, mask, and be ready to have fun with our church family! All COVID-19 regulations will be followed. If you are interested, please fill out this Google form to help us know how best to plan within those regulations. Deadline to sign up is May 17 at noon.
