Where: Louisburg (4078 NC Hwy 56E)
For: all ages
About: Join us on Wednesday, Oct. 4 (it’s a day off for Chapel Hill/Carrboro Schools!) for a gleaning day with the Society of St. Andrew. Because sweet potatoes aren’t quite ready yet, we’re heading to a farm near Louisburg to pick peppers….mostly of the Jalapeño variety. We’ll meet the farmer at 9:30 am the Dollar General that is directly across the street from his fields (4078 NC Hwy 56E). We’ll plan to glean between 9:30 and 11:30 am or so.
What to wear: long pants, close toed shoes, things you don’t mind getting messy.
What to bring: Sunscreen, water bottle and WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU BRING GLOVES. Repeated contact with Jalapeños can transfer some of that burn sensation to your skin, and the most risky thing is if you were handling the peppers and then touched your eye. So bring some gloves to protect yourself.
ALSO – if you can bring small to medium boxes or paper sacks of any kind that would be helpful for picking and transporting the peppers. Think Amazon boxes…smaller and flatter are the best.
